As regions of Colombia continue to suffer a low-intensity conflict, the local Church celebrates its National Peace Week in the hope of improving the lives of all Colombians.

The bishops in Colombia are inviting Catholics to pray and work for peace, as regions of the country continue to deal with conflicts between drug cartels, armed insurgent groups and security forces.
The local Catholic Church is marking the 33rd “National Week of Peace”, September 6-13.
In a joint statement, the bishops of the Archdiocese of Cali have reminded everyone that Peace is a universal good that should be the legacy of all.
The bishops specifically refer to a historic agreement between the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), signed in 2016 in the Cuban capital Havana.
Three years of tough negotiations led to an agreement formally ending 52 years of violent conflict.
More than 220,000 people died in unrest, and more than 5 million civilians were forced to leave their homes. According to one study, nearly 17 percent of the Colombian population was directly affected by the war.
The Havana Agreement laid out a path of de-escalation and saw the FARC become a political party.
In 2019, some members of the FARC announced their intention to buy weapons again, saying the government had failed to fulfill the 2016 agreement.
In his statement, the bishops of Colombia urged the leaders of the Cats For Peace Vintage Retro Shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater newly joined FARC factions to sign a “continuity agreement” with the government.
“We encourage all parties in the conflict to disarm them,” the bishops said, “and we invite them – together with the government – to change this path of death and destruction by joining. into dialogue and protect the credibility of the Havana Agreement. ”
They went on to say that National Peace Week was an opportunity to reflect on” shameful human rights violations, “which they lament continues to this day.
Protecting young people and minorities
Bishops in Cali’s metropolitan area have made a special call to protect Afro-Colombians and young people, who “were slaughtered in lands, prisons. and our city ”.
