“Milo was the one who performed a little better at first, but fell off quickly,” said Tracey Williams, CEO. “Otis is starting to look really tough and we’re not sure if he can do it, but as of today, he is kissing his adoptive mother.”
Michelle Curry, the chairman of the PAWS board, was training Otis after he was severely burned in a house fire in Laurel Hill. He is improving every day.
Michelle Curry, the chairman of the PAWS board, gave Milo and Otis medical training after they were severely burned in the Laurel Hill house fire. Milo has died since then.
Andi Warren, an animal control officer with PAWS, quickly arrived after EMS sent the call on the night of the fire. The call only mentioned a dog, she said.
When Warren arrived, Milo was out of the house and loaded into her truck. She was told that Otis was in the middle of the road when the fire truck arrived, and she was called to pick him up again when he returned a few days later.
PAWS has a contract with the county for animal control services, but that does not include the cost of care and its veterinary bill through its non-profit shelter. Contribution-based organization.
Michelle Curry, the chairman of the PAWS board, provided medical care for both dogs. When she got Milo, his external burns weren’t as bad as Otis.
“Dachshunds’ legs are 4 inches long, so whenever they run through fire they come into contact with more things,” says Curry. “(Milo) can inhale anything – smoke, fire. I don’t know what’s going on internally. Outside, perhaps 40 to 50% of his body was burned, and that was the entire undercarriage. His feet, chest and stomach were all very bad.
It didn’t take long for Curry to form a relationship with the Dachshund Pew Pew Madafakas Shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater dog.
“I only had him for a few days, but boy, he went deep into my heart very quickly,” Curry said. “He is in a great shape for what he’s been through. But it won’t eat, which is a pretty good sign that something else is going on if a dachshund doesn’t want to eat. ”

Curry split Milo and Otis in their own little bed in her king-size bed on Thursday night. When she woke up, Milo was gone.
“He passed in his sleep sometime that night,” said Curry. “It broke my heart. Whenever a dog has a great attitude and has gone through what it has gone through; it breaks your heart. Sometimes attitude isn’t enough ”.
