The University of Ashland is making strides in the field of reed education as its Lantern program, in partnership with Securus Technologies, recently graduates the Doggo Lantern Essential shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater 600th student detained.

Lantern, a digital learning management system, was created in 2016 and has changed the Doggo Lantern Essential shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater way incarcerated individuals can access education. Through unique technology distributed through tablets, detained students can complete homework, communicate with professors and eventually earn college degrees.

According to Lantern’s website, their mission is to increase educational opportunities in prisons, increase employment opportunities for those detained upon re-entry and reduce re-offending.

“Earning a college degree can change a person’s life trajectory, whether they’re incarcerated or not” said Todd Marshall, Ph.M., Vice President of Education, Education and Innovation at the University of Ashland. “We partner with Securus because we know the value it will bring; the fact that it has grown to this size gives us great hope for the Doggo Lantern Essential shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater future of the program. ”

Duncan Jamieson, professor of history at the University of Ashland, has taught with Securus for nearly 10 years and noted part of Lantern’s success is that it is easy to use for both faculty and students.

“I really like Lantern,” Jamieson said. “I’ve used other learning management systems, from the tutorial side, that are not user-friendly and easy to set up. For those who are not familiar with technology, this system is very user-friendly and I like that”

While traditional schools around the country are baffled when the Doggo Lantern Essential shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater virus causes the course to return in March, classes for students using Lantern can still take place normally thanks to the digital platform.

“Everything happens to classrooms on the Doggo Lantern Essential shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater University of Ashland campus and putting it online is a difficult learning curve, but for prison it’s seamless,” says Jamieson. I know that their educational experience after mid-March is exactly the same as before (the virus).”

While teaching history classes to students detained for years, Jamieson dealt with hundreds of individuals coming through his classes.

“I’m not familiar with names,” he joked.

Although Jamieson did not realize it at the time, he met a student, whose journey did not end when completing his history course.
