It sounds like a joke, but scientists have found that drawing large eyes on cow’s back can help protect them from lions and other predators. Don’t Pet The Fluffy Cows Bison Halloween Shirt

The researchers worked with farmers in Botswana, Africa, who drew cattle in a herd of 14 that were frequently attacked by lions.
The scientists drew one third of each herd with an eye design on the base of the cow, one third with a simple cross, and the rest had no markings.
They found that animals painted with false eyes were significantly more likely to survive than controls that were unpainted or cross-painted in the same herd during the four years of the study.
In the past, farmers roamed cows and grazed grass during the day, but that left them under the attack of lions, leopards and other carnivores.
And when a farmer loses a cow, the village will often hunt and shoot the big cat, which is one of the reasons why the lion population in Africa has declined in the past few decades.
Drawing eyes on a cow’s tail could provide a more humane alternative to shooting future predators – protecting both cows and big cats.
Neil Jordan of the University of New South Wales in Australia, said: “Lions are predators that rely on stalking and therefore have an element of surprise, so being seen by prey may make them give up. hunt, ”said Neil Jordan of the University of New South Wales in Australia, one of the leaders of the study.
Some cows are painted in the shape of crosses, which scientists believe is better than no paint
Animals including butterflies, fish and birds have been known to have pseudo-eye designs on their bodies to help them confuse and scare away other predators in the Don’t Pet The Fluffy Cows Bison Halloween Shirt wild.
But no mammals – like cows – naturally create these types of eye designs on their bodies to help them survive other organisms.
Study co-author Cameron Radford said: “To our knowledge, our research is the first time fisheye has been able to suppress large predatory mammals.
“We think this may indicate that the presence of an inherent response to the Don’t Pet The Fluffy Cows Bison Halloween Shirt eye can be exploited to modify behavior in real-world situations – such as preventing human-to-conflict. wildlife and reduce criminal activity in humans. ”
