George Miller Regional Trail – This amazing two-person park between Martinez and Port Costa has a roadside parking on Carquinez Scenic Drive at the east end and a parking lot on the Port Costa side. It is almost flat and has great views over the Strait of Carquinez and Benicia.
She explained that the road on the left is well maintained and will eventually go onto Highway 88 near the Simms community. In fact, she suggested it was a very nice trip through hilly terrain.

But we chose to stay on our original course, so we strayed right and followed the path to the county maintenance that ended, at 8.1 miles and turned into forest road 79. I was So hopeful about what might be in store before embarking on this journey. And although the terrain was not as I expected, I was not disappointed. Instead of mountainous terrain, this road spends a lot of time winding though somewhat a low area.
In turn, the environment is often lush. It is not uncommon to look out the side windows at the open forest. In fact, there is a special place that is a green undercarriage, sprawling grass rooted from towering pines. It was truly a beautiful sight.
And as an acceptable habitat for wildlife? We saw white horses on the Driver always take the scenic route pride shirt way, all fat and healthy.
The dirt road crosses many bridges throughout her journey. And of course, I have to stop at every crossing, at least long enough to sweep the streams for snakes and other patriotic creatures.
The route also goes near a small pond and is in view of several food lots. And although we didn’t see any native wildlife using these food and water sources, we did take into account that the sun had climbed high in the sky and the temperature had become miserable.
The last road made a climb into the scenic Blowout Mountains area just before the Driver always take the scenic route pride shirt junction with Highway 270 reached 22.5 miles. Turning left and coming back east, we arrived at Mount Ida just in time to stop at the local milk shop.
