Back in the spring, when the Funny Hanukkah 2020 Dreidel Wearing Face Mask Graphic Shirt Jewish camps simultaneously canceled the seemingly overnight summer lessons, Rabbi Shayna Golkow knew she wanted to do something to help the disappointed campers get some of the spirit. Of the season.
So she worked with her boyfriend, Ben Zauzmer, to found Shabbat-o-Grams.com, a website that offers a digital version of the handcrafted messages that Golkow remembers as the highlight. during her summers at Camp Ramah in Poconos.

At the end of the summer, Funny Hanukkah 2020 Dreidel Wearing Face Mask Graphic Shirt camps competed with each other to see how many messages would be sent through the system. “It feels like we can make some small, tiny difference in how happy everyone is in This time has helped us, ”said Golkow.
As the Hanukkah approached and the pandemic still made the gatherings unsafe, Golkow and Zauzmer turned their attention to a focus of the holiday celebration: competitive games of dreidel. They found sites that allow users to shoot virtual games, but none of them act as a game for competitors in separate places.
So they did one, launching VirtualDreidel.com late last month. The site allows users to play together, trading images of gold coins as they click a button to spin their debris and build – or lose – their virtual pot. Follow created the illustrations, Funny Hanukkah 2020 Dreidel Wearing Face Mask Graphic Shirt Zauzmer coded the website, and the pair teamed up to create a positive user experience.
If Virtual Dreidel has some rough edges, it’s because it’s a side project for Golkow and Zauzmer who kicked it off while working full-time: Golkow as the rabbi at Temple Aliyah, a Conservative synagogue in Woodland Hills, California, and Zauzmer is an analyst at the Los Angeles Dodgers who was at home when his team won the World Series this year. (He is also an Academy Awards forecaster whose book “Oscarmetrics: The Funny Hanukkah 2020 Dreidel Wearing Face Mask Graphic Shirt Math Behind the Biggest Night in Hollywood”, released in 2019)
When they met last year in Los Angeles, they learned they both grew up in the Philadelphia area and went to Jewish camps in Poconos. They designed Dreidel virtual as much as fun to play with their family 3,000 miles away as with young Golkow working with at his synagogue.
The user can choose between non-Israeli and Israeli brushstrokes – the difference is whether a letter is a shin, signifying that Hanukkah’s miracle happened “there” or peh, signify indicates that it happened “here”. (Only one type of dreidel can be used per game, in case you’re considering playing an Israeli friend or family member.) There was even a leaderboard, as Zauzmer figured out how to make it. a chart without storing important user data.
And they formulated a rule that anyone who has been bored during an endless match can appreciate.
“We added a rule wherein the ante is increased so the game doesn’t go on forever,” said Volkow. “We’re trying to estimate the normal experience – with the addition of hoping everyone will use Zoom together, connected in some way other than Virtual Dreidel.”
What’s next for the couple? To celebrate their own Hanukkah celebration, Golkow is considering making a pickle coffee, this year’s recipe.
But you don’t have to expect another online innovation to gain the approximate experiences that Jews have traditionally had offline.
“With a little luck and a bit of science,” said Zauzmer, “whatever the next web page we create, it will be for the post-pandemic.”
