Skyline’s girls basketball program was introduced into the Monkey Fun Is Too Short To Have Boring Hair Vintage Shirt Missouri Sports Hall of Fame at a basketball party on Wednesday, December 9, at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds E-Plex East Wing.

About 100 people from Skyline, including many current and former players, attended the event, which celebrated the Lady Tigers’ six state championships and 14 appearances in the Finals. Skyline won the Monkey Fun Is Too Short To Have Boring Hair Vintage Shirt state championship in 1996 and 1997 under Coach Lynn Long and won it in 2003, 2004, 2008 and 2017 under current coach Kevin Cheek.
Skyline has finished second in state four times and third in third. Lady Tigers has reached the Final for four consecutive years from 2013 to 2018.
A featured video was shown and Coach Cheek, whose team had won 524 games in 22 years prior to the current season, was the speaker. This year, Lady Tigers are leading 4-0.
Cheek emphasized that girls’ programs always have the support of the government and the community. The results, Cheek pointed out that the new Female Tigers have 7 coaches after 48 years. The Monkey Fun Is Too Short To Have Boring Hair Vintage Shirt program started in 1972, and coaches were Gary Boggs, Joe Teague, Herb Bybee, Peggy (Smith) McGuire, Barb Woodruff, Long and Cheek.
Skyline has won 23 district championships and 21 congress championships. The show has won 139 victories in five seasons under the Long rule.
Cheek realizes the importance of Jerry Bybee and Jim Reynolds, saying that they worked with Cheek’s first group of players when they were little girls.
“The little girls want to play for Skyline,” he said. “We are fortunate that there is always a group of youngsters that work hard to become better and as long as someone keeps score, they want to win.”
