Organizers say 310 athletes have been recognized, most of them posing for photos. With friends and loved ones as Titans become Aztecs in the future, Falcons become Toreros in the future, and more.
“It is a great opportunity for us to recognize the children and their parents who have worked so much to reach this level,” said Bill Johnston, President of the Sports Association. “It is a celebration of their achievements and we are proud to be able to host this event at Petco Park.”
The total attendance is estimated at more than 1,000 people, according to Steve Brand, the Sports Association’s award director, who said the number of voters has increased each year.
“Events are growing and that means more and more of our young people are getting paid for their education,” says Brand. “The fun part was when parents came to cheer and also saw a school like the Torrey Pines that has 40 (athletes) here.
