An Asian elephant at the Saint Louis Zoo in Missouri died on Sunday, less than a month after birth, the zoo announced in a press release. The loss is particularly serious because Asian elephants are classified as an endangered species.
The calf, named Avi by his keepers, was humanely digested and died “peacefully” on Sunday morning, the zoo said. He was born on July 6.
The zoo explains that the calf has impaired development, making it difficult to raise from the time it was born. While the zoo said its Elephant Care Team provided “intensive care efforts and life support measures”, including ongoing feeding and intravenous treatment, health. The calf was not better.

“Everyone here is just devastated right now,” said Jeffrey P. Bonner, Ph.D., President, and CEO of the Save The Elephant Vintage Retro Shirt, Sweater Saint Louis Zoo. “Our professional elephant care team has done everything possible to help improve the calf’s health. Unfortunately, in the end, that was not enough because of his health complications. too serious.”
The law seeks to ban the import and possession of animal parts from the list of endangered and threatened African species, including elephants, lions, and rhinos.
The bill was passed in the state Senate and is expected to pass the Council on Tuesday.
‘I don’t understand why this is anyone’s business but my own,’ Raby told the Los Angeles Times. ‘What I did was legal. I did not break a law. They will issue a ban because of a series of … dogs that cry but don’t like hunting. ‘
It was a long way for California to pass similar laws in the Save The Elephant Vintage Retro Shirt, Sweater Council and Senate two years ago, but the bill was later vetoed by Gov. Jerry Brown, who called the outage ban “impossible”.
