Koster, 69, has a 1,200-acre sunflower field located on Polo Road, near the Sunflowers Inspire kindness shirt Mobil gas station. It is attracting viewers from near and far, to the point where the Sterling Police Department has had to put up a no-parking sign in that area, to help ease traffic congestion.
One might think Koster wouldn’t want people to gather on his land to watch the flowers, but the truth is the opposite. He has no problem with that, and if they want to pluck a tree or two, that’s fine. He visits this area most of the day, to see what’s going on.
“I have gone into this and know that there will be some people who cannot resist choosing them,” Koster said. “I’m out there, and I don’t know how this couple came out, but they say they’re from Los Angeles. The woman claims that she is an actor and that he is an engineer. They listened to my story about how these sunflowers came about. ”
This isn’t the first time the Sunflowers Inspire kindness shirt industry has caught attention. In 2011, he switched it to an organic field, meaning no chemicals or fertilizers were used to grow that year’s wheat and clover. Hogs then ate the clover, and their droppings supported the growth of the vegetation in the building.
When the resident complained of the bad smell, he successfully argued that it was an organic farm and could continue to operate.
“My father, who was living at the time, asked me where the Sunflowers Inspire kindness shirt idea came from,” Koster said. “I told him when I was a boy, ‘I think you made me clean up too many pigsties.’ This way, we don’t need to shovel. The pigs are depositing it right on the ground where we want it. ”
Since then, Koster has used the land to grow organic crops, including wheat, alfalfa, corn, soy and beans food gold.
His first crop in 2020 is wheat, after which he gets a call from a man who works in Atlanta for Perdue, a chicken processing company. Perdue wants Koster to produce an organic sunflower.
