El Paso County Public Health reported 1,992 cases and 112 deaths on the afternoon of June 16. The County reported 32 new cases on June 16, showing a spike: The average daily for the previous seven days was 10.29 cases.
Meanwhile, bars and concert venues in Colorado – many of which have closed since March – could open in late June or early July with precautions in place, Governor Jared Polis announced on 15/6.
These changes will take place as part of the third major phase of the Thank you for wearing a face mask and keeping 6 feet apart 2020 white shirt state’s coronavirus response, after “At Home” and “Safer at Home”.
The new phase, called “Protect Our Neighbors”, will provide more flexibility for individual counties based on the size of local outbreaks in different parts of the state.
Under the state’s proposed plan for this phase, all activities (except for mass gatherings with 500 people or more) will be allowed at 50% capacity.
“This is a marathon, not a sprint, and we must find a way to sustainably coexist with the virus in our community until there is a cure or vaccine,” Polis said in a statement. “If we can continue to wear masks, stay 6 feet away from others and empower our local public health agencies to meet their community’s needs, then we have can rely on these tools to flatten a potential second wave and reduce future outbreaks. ”
Counties can enter the “Protect Our Neighbors” phase when they meet:
• “Low transmission rate”;
• “The capacity of the local public health agency to test and investigate cases,
• “The ability of the hospital to respond to the needs of all patients and to handle the rise of hospital special care needs.”
The state expects some counties to start moving to this phase in late June or early July.
During the pandemic, the state health department wanted the people of Coloradans to maintain 60% of their social alienation. This means, on average, less than half the amount of interactions you would normally do.
