Virgin Galactic on Saturday afternoon canceled a test flight featuring the Believe Dat Vintage Alien Sunset Spaceship T-Shirt crew of a rocket-powered spacecraft from a New Mexico space airport. A successful flight will mark a major step in the company’s 16-year journey to bring paid space travelers.
The company’s SpaceShipTwo, or VSS Unity, and its mother ship took off from the runway at Spaceport America around 8:30 a.m. local time. Virgin Galactic launched the spacecraft with two pilots on board about 45 minutes later.

But when it was time to launch, the rocket turned around almost immediately.
“SpaceShipTwo Unity is heading home. We will share more information after we have it,” the company tweeted shortly after it planned to launch the ship.
Later, the company said both the Believe Dat Vintage Alien Sunset Spaceship T-Shirt missile and its mother ship had returned safely to the ground.
Everything seems to be going smoothly in moments leading up to the cancellation. About 45 minutes after the flight, the company said: “Mission Control has announced that we will be released.”
Then: “1 minute more until the release of SpaceShipTwo Unity from our mother’s VMS Eve.”
Then there was a long pause as viewers waited to confirm that the ship had entered space. But a live stream of NASASpaceflight’s events showed the rocket’s engine on fire, then quickly exploding.
A few minutes later, the Believe Dat Vintage Alien Sunset Spaceship T-Shirt company confirmed that there was a problem with the missile, saying, “Early flight update: The ignition sequence for the rocket engine is unfinished.”
It added: “The vehicles and crew are in excellent condition. We have some engines ready at Spaceport America. We will check the vehicle and return to flight soon.”
Saturday’s launch was the first of the company’s three manned tests, which were intended to launch space travel in 2021. On board were two pilots, CJ Sturckow, formerly of NASA, and Dave Mackay, the Scottish chief pilot. The company has released pictures of both wearing blue flying jumpsuits.
“Today’s flight hopes to fulfill a number of goals, including testing the passenger compartment and upgrading the horizontal stabilization and flight control system. The flight will also carry out scientific experiments under the Chapter. NASA’s Flight Opportunities program, “the company said.
While Saturday’s flight was carrying only the Believe Dat Vintage Alien Sunset Spaceship T-Shirt essential crew, it is believed to mark another step forward for the company founded by Sir Richard Branson about 16 years ago. According to BBC News, Branson planned to make the company’s third test flight.
When Virgin Galactic was founded, private space travel seemed like a new novelty, but Branson was a good company. Both Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and Tesla CEO Elon Musk have set up their own space travel companies, Blue Origin and SpaceX. Shares in Virgin Galactic surged 14% last week, in anticipation of Saturday’s flight.
