“Deadhaus Sonata” is a free game with great ambitions. In the way creator Denis Dyack talks about the project, it borders the territory of Peter Molyneux. It’s a risky proposition but equally high reward.
The project he envisioned uses the cloud to create a game that is enduring and involving everyone. It is a return – the way back – to the ancient Greeks. Dyack said the plays of that era had crowd interaction, and in a similar way he wanted the crowd in live broadcasts to get into the game.

Using Genvid technology, “Deadhaus Sonata” allows the audience to vote for a dungeon owner who can open the door and set traps for the live stream. Dyack expands that idea to other high school characters. In essence, audiences can play roles in a streaming game that would normally be programmed as background characters. Instead of pre-set responses, a member of the crowd can act as a quest giver or another unplayable character.
Beyond that micro-level interaction, players can call for elections and persistent cosmic change by asking viewers to vote on a proposal. Dyack gave an example to revered people, one of the main factions. Players can give gifts to all revered people and that rewards can continue for a week. Other players will be alerted, and they can encourage their followers to accept or reject major gameplay changes.
That’s part of the enduring aspect of “Deadhaus Sonata”. Left is the concept of age, town and country. “Diablo” style game takes place in a metaverse model, in which the players are monsters, Dyack said. More specifically, they are zombies, vampires and other creatures that collide in the night. Therefore, they are truly immortal in a world full of mortal beings.
That evokes the idea of the times. Dyack says “Deadhaus Sonata” will go through these eras. The first age will begin when the game launches and each successive age will be based on changes the player makes. He said he could build towns, he could establish houses, he could form nations. With each era, that history becomes a legend and players leave their own mythology. The fact that Genvid technology doesn’t require much investment is another factor of it. The problem comes with chat moderation and learning how the community interacts with live streamers.
