According to Fipps’ obituary, she passed away at a hospital in Little River, SC last Friday.
The Happy 100th Day of Kindergarten Teacher Student Shirt NC Educators Association posted online that Fipps died of COVID-19.
Her co-workers and friends describe her as a ray of sunshine.
“There’s never been a serious moment around her,” said 4th-grade teacher Amanda Tedder. “She’s always filled with jokes and laughter. We have been playing pranks all this time ”.
The fourth-grade staff said they were all family at Edgewood, the Happy 100th Day of Kindergarten Teacher Student Shirt team of five said her presence at school would be missed but they were comforted by happy memories shared with Fipps
“We are a team, this is our 4th-grade team, but our school is a family,” Tedder said. “We are all hurt today, but we are also praising God and rejoicing to know that she is with Him. That means more to us than anything. ”
They reflect accounts from her previous students, one citing Ms. Fipps as the reason she decided to pursue a career in education.
“Wendy loves her job. She loves her coworkers, she loves kids, she loves what she does, ”said 4th-grade teacher Carmen McQueen.
4th-grade teacher Amy Greene said she, McQueen, and Fipps are all pursuing master’s degrees together. Greene said Fipps always kept her and McQueen in line during school and did the same when they walked across the hall together.
Greene said: “I was in another school and [Fipps] begged me to come and this is my fifth year at Edgewood. “I confronted her right away and she still had to keep Carmen and I went straight, I don’t know who will do it now. We fell in love with her. “
Columbus County little learners will remember her for many things.
“” Tell stories! “McQueen said.” Tell stories, “added fourth-grade teacher Tonya Nobles.
“She’s very enthusiastic and interesting,” said Tedder. “She always has something funny to say about things and she loves anything more than anything read to her children.”
