On Thursday, two teenagers stood on the east lawn of Wascana Park, outside the Saskatchewan legislative building, to show solidarity with the Walking With Our Angels camp.
This takes place on World Suicide Day and is a gathering place for people who want to commemorate their loved ones.
“I have family members who have taken their lives … very close family members … and I think today is a day to reflect and commemorate them,” said advocate Prescott Demas. .
One Unifor committee received a one-day pass for up to 5 teepees on the Moms are like angels you don’t have to see then to know they are there shirt east lawn, just across the garden from Tristen Durocher’s Walking With Our Angels.
Although the two protests were unrelated, Demas said it was about support.
“Tristen has been here for almost 40 days, sitting quietly here. Many comparisons were made between the Justice for Our Stolen Children camp and his camp, but he came with a purpose, ”Demas said.
“It was about Bill 618, the suicide prevention bill and he here was fasting for 44 days.”
In mid-June, Saskatchewan’s NDP attempted to pass Proposition 618, a bill by private members, to recognize suicide as a health and safety priority.

While Saskatchewan does not have a suicide prevention law, the Moms are like angels you don’t have to see then to know they are there shirt provincial government launched a plan in May.
“We always say the plan is the starting document. It’s the document on which we will build on all of our strategies, all our plans, all of our future discussions, ”Warren Kaeding, Regional Minister for Health Rural and Outlying Saskatchewan said.

The province is investing 1.2 million dollars in suicide prevention this fiscal year. But critics say that is not enough to meet the urgent need for life-saving.
