Whether it’s raining or sunny, participants will make their way to the Sassquatch SweatShirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater forest across Lake Mintahama in the hope of capturing the famously unused creature and cashing in from the prize.
“Sasquatch must be an expert in camouflage because no one has ever photographed him with photography… We believe there is a Sasquatch in the building, perhaps very at peace with the forest environment out there. So they [the participants] should expect to find an actual creature and take a close-up selfie with them to win,” said event coordinator Lindsey Luebber.
The money raised for the Sasquatch SweatShirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater event will support the nonprofit Mintahama in its campaign to put money paid for the Mintahama estate, located at 7013 Eland Road in Joplin, to reopen as a public venue for camping and education.
“Mintahama is a Girl Guides camp and we have set up a nonprofit to acquire it and open it as a public camp, so we are raising funds for lower payout amounts,” Luebbert said.
Mintahama opened in 1946 and closed in 2018.
According to Mintahama’s website, their mission is to “preserve and use the historic Mintahama Camp while providing lifelong skills-building, education and leadership activities through outdoor experiences”.
“It will be operated as a public summer camp and educational and event center all year round. We can harness our passion for this property from a large group of long-time volunteers committed to meeting the goal of reopening in summer 2021 on its 75th anniversary,” the website states.
In May next year, on mintahama’s 75th anniversary, there will be another Sasquatch Search event that includes a hunt for child scavengers.
