When I started my Pandemic Adventure, I had only one obligation I had to fulfill: climb Mount St. Helens on August 13. After spending a week exploring the beautiful Deschutes National Forest, I took a five-hour drive to Washington in August. 11 to prepare for the hike. After a long drive, I stayed the night near Cougar Washington, a small town in the middle of a dense forest. After staying there for a day, I drove over to spend the night near the top of the trail for St. Mary’s. Helens.

I got up at 4:15 am on August 13 with the goal of hitting the trailhead at 5:00 a.m. As I walked up the trail, I made my way through a pitch-black forest, using my headlights to find my way. After climbing the trees, the remainder of the hike is a giant slogan over gravel, rocks, and finally steep ash fields.
I reached the summit about three hours after starting and was stunned by the beauty of the volcano and its surroundings. In the distance, you can see Mt. Rainer, Mt. The hood, Mt. Adams, and many rolling hills surround these mountains. Looking down below, you can see the lava dome in the center of the crater, there is even some smoke rising from it.

After a limited number of St. Helens, I drove to Rainier National Park. MT. Rainier is great, to say the least. Like St. Helens, Rainier is another active volcano in the Cascade Range. Standing over 14,000 feet tall, its upper slopes are covered with glaciers.
The areas around the mountain are filled with meadows, streams, and beautiful wildflowers. This mountain is definitely on my climbing list, and with the right equipment, training and planning I hope to one day reach Mount Rainier.
After departing from Rainier, I decided to move to the coast and head towards Kalaloch on the Olympic Peninsula. The ocean is nice but definitely colder than Coronado beach!
Since then, I have been exploring the rainforest in the Olympic National Park. These old forests have a lot of plant and animal life and so far I have seen bears, elk, deer, geese and banana slugs just by hiking on a few trails.
