We examined whether the surgeon’s birthday was evenly allocated during the Vintage 1966 Limited Edition Gift 55Th Birthday 2020 Shirt year and compared the patient’s characteristics and the extent of the patient’s illness on the surgeon’s birthday and other days, to investigate whether the patient’s level of illness differed based on the date of surgery.

To estimate the severity of the disease for each patient, we diagnosed mortality in 30 days based on patient characteristics using logistical rehabilitation models and estimated the predicted probability of 30-day mortality per patient. In addition, we evaluate the number of procedures each surgeon has on and around their date of birth to consider whether the surgeon has changed his or her decision to perform the surgery (e.g., the volume of their surgery) on their birthday. Finally, we compare the characteristics of surgeons who perform the Vintage 1966 Limited Edition Gift 55Th Birthday 2020 Shirt procedure on their birthdays with those who do not have surgery.

Next, we compare the surgical mortality rates of patients who are operated on a surgeon’s birthday with those who are operated on on other days of the year. We have built three models of rehabilitation. Model 1 is adjusted only for the characteristics of the patient. Model 2 adjusts for all variables in model 1 plus the hospital fixing effect, comparing patient outcomes in the same hospital. Model 3 is adapted for all variables in model 1 plus the fixed impact of the surgeon, an analysis within the surgeon’s scope comparing the results of surgeries performed on the surgeon’s birthday compared to other days on which the same surgeon.

The fixed impact adjustment analyses of the hospital (model 2) compare the results of patients treated at the same hospital and therefore rely on differences between surgeons in the same hospital. In contrast, the fixed impact adjustment analyses of the doctor (model 3) compare the results of patients operated on by the same surgeon, effectively addressing the Vintage 1966 Limited Edition Gift 55Th Birthday 2020 Shirt research question of whether each surgeon performs differently on their date of birth compared to other days of the year.

Finally, we conducted an analysis of the event study to find out how the patient’s mortality in 30 days differed from the birthday of the surgeons. We calculate the patient’s mortality rate for 30 days based on a set of relative day indicators within two weeks before and after the surgeon’s birthday (using other days of the year as a reference catalog), adjusting for the patient’s characteristics and the fixed impact of the surgeon (model 3).
