A dark and somewhat bizarre proposition comes from the political poet, writer and occasional MC Potent Whisper. Lucid Lovers is presented as a “musical audiobook” (think radio) with rhyming narration plus original music by 3ss3nce and Antonio Lewis

It begins with a tragic story about a loving couple forced apart in Sudan’s recent emergency. One of them, Samer, eventually fled to Great Britain and endured the injustices and cruelty of the refugee system.
This is the kind of moral political storytelling we expect from Potent Whisper, but then everything becomes metaphysical as the poet begins to discover the potential power of lucid dreaming.

The story feels more like (writer) Ben Okri than (rapper warrior) Immortal technique, with diminishing political demands in the direction of reflecting the magical reality of reality’s changing nature freedom and sleep cycle.

In addition to Potent Whisper, the project features the voices of Mustafa Khogali (Samer) and Hind Swareldahab (Ahlam), both of whom have been involved in the rebellion in Sudan and have since gone through the Vintage note music you hear the music but you feel the bass shirt British refugee system.
