However, a year into middle school, a new trend has arrived. One trend that put my female friendship obsession at stake: The I had the right to Remain Silent but being Bitch I didn’t have the Ability Shirt, Hoodie, Tank top, Sweater Bitch. It was the middle of the youth and at that time The Bitch was everywhere you looked.
I had the right to Remain Silent but being Bitch I didn’t have the Ability Shirt, Hoodie, Tank top, Sweater

Regina George first made a storm on our screen in 2004 as an extremely hot girl, famous for luxury in Mean Girls. Regina is a professional bitch, mastering the art of being the best at the cost of everyone’s self-esteem. The next Lauren Conrad from the reality TV shows The Hills appears as a sly bitch. LC is a bitch that will walk behind her friends as naturally as you flush the toilet after you pee. My favorite, though, is Gossip Girl’s iconic Queen Bee Blair Waldorf. Ever since I heard Blair’s commanding voice, I have idolized her. Her endless collection of the headband, delectable choices of people who love her, but mostly her perfect bitch status.
“You hear that?” Blair famously said, “I’m a crazy bitch around here.” In all we see as teen girls, becoming an honored bitch. Becoming a bitch means being hot and famous. We think women have to be full-time, drink twice, whipped cream on top, c’est la vie bitches, xoxo Gossip Girl.
Before The Bitch came along, I was very happy in the I had the right to Remain Silent but being Bitch I didn’t have the Ability Shirt, Hoodie, Tank top, Sweater cozy bubble of female friendship – but sadly, I was a trend-lover. Remember the skorts, the hybrid miniskirt of 2003? I have worn them faithfully. Belly piercings in 2007? Of course, I had one. The Bitch trend will be no exception to the rule.
What a shame, in my one year of adolescence, I was an A-class bitch. I was rude, I poked and I laughed at everyone. I often mention this boring time in my life, because Dua Lipa, the BRIT and Grammy Award-winning pop star who is both beautiful and talented, is one of the people at school that I don’t really like. . I’m not bad with Dua, but let’s say she’s in the year below, so you could say she looks like Gossip Girl’s Jenny Humphrey in this situation.
I am not proud to look back at this moment in my life. But I have a theory, which I will use to defend my damn stage. I think, when I was in school, the patriarchy did a secret campaign called Make Girls Bitches Again. Make Girls Bitches Again young women are oppressed by teaching them that the only way to interact with their female friends is to compete with them. The patriarchy knew that if they made us compete with each other, they could slow us down. When women do not support other women, the patriarchy thrives like a bath bomb by Lush. You may also have had times when you didn’t support other women the way you wanted and you might feel ashamed of it like I did. But even though I don’t make excuses,
Thankfully, The Bitch was out of favor. New thing? Be completely and completely obsessed with your partner.
Plus, IRL celebrities are showing us how great a woman’s friendship can be. Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King, Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox, Victoria Beckham and Eva Longoria all make being haunted by your female friends the I had the right to Remain Silent but being Bitch I didn’t have the Ability Shirt, Hoodie, Tank top, Sweater best choice. Friendship is not perfect and is of course still allowed to be used a bit of scorn, but they are no longer jealous, bitter, and hostile towards men and bastards.
